Richard Cotter, is a Strategic Partner of R&R Global who specializes in and is responsible for Hotel and Resort operations. As one of the hospitality industry’s top operators he is uniquely qualified to oversee advisory services associated with pre and post opening operations and asset management of hotels and resorts under the care of R&R Global.
Cotter has over 30 years experience working in many of the hospitality industry’s most emblematic hotels and resorts. A respected industry leader, Cotter’s impressive credentials include an intimate knowledge of operating hotels and resorts who have an orientation toward guests seeking luxury accommodations.
Prior to becoming an Strategic partner of R&R Global in 2007, Cotter served as Executive Vice President of Hotel, Food & Beverage Operations of Wynn Las Vegas, where he was responsible for the opening of 19 restaurants and 2,716 Rooms and Suites including the highly acclaimed Tower Suites, Alex Restaurant, Bartolotta Restaurant, and Daniel Boulud Restaurant. Cotter was also responsible for the hiring, training and direction of over 7,000 staff for Wynn Las Vegas. Wynn Las Vegas was the most successful opening of a casino resort in Las Vegas history.
A snapshot of Richard Cotter’s accomplished career follows:
- Prior to joining Wynn Las Vegas in October of 2003, Cotter was Regional Vice President for the Mid-Atlantic States for Starwood Hotels and Resorts with responsibility for 37 hotels from Starwood’s six brands including St. Regis, Westin, W, & Sheraton Hotels. Cotter was responsible for the opening of New York’s two major hotels to open after 911, The W Hotel Times Square and the Westin Times Square.
- Upon joining Starwood in 1998, as Vice President and Managing Director of St. Regis Hotels, he was responsible for the opening of the St. Regis Monarch Beach, the St. Regis Los Angeles, the conversion of St. Regis hotels in Aspen, Houston and Washington DC. The St. Regis New York was one of only three hotels in the US with 10 Stars and 10 Diamonds from Mobil and AAA.
- Prior to Starwood, he served as Vice President and Managing Director, North America for the New York Palace Hotel and the Bel Air Hotel. Under his management, the New York Palace Hotel received the AAA Five Diamond award for Lodging. Mr. Cotter enticed the famed Le Cirque Restaurant to move to the Palace and opened Le Cirque 2000, which gained 4 Stars from the NY Times and 5 Stars and 5 Diamonds from Mobil and AAA. The Bel Air is a Mobil 5 Star Hotel.
- From 1988 through 1992, Richard was Manager of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and Towers. He held this position for over four years until moving to the position of General Manager of the Beverly Hilton in 1992.
In addition to his previous employment, Cotter maintains a commitment to education and the community. He has been an advisory board member for the Center for Hospitality Research at Cornell University, Howard University in Washington DC and the Tisch Hospitality Program at New York University. He most recently served as Vice Chairmen of the Hotel Association of New York City, Board Member of NYC & Co, the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce, and the Chamber of Commerce of Beverly Hills.
He has received the Distinguished Citizen award from the Mayor of Beverly Hills, the Cardinal’s Committee of the Laity award by Cardinal O’Connor of New York and the Corporate Citizen Award from the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Cotter is a graduate of School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University.
